So a couple of verses that have resonated lately…
Proverbs 26:12 The Voice (VOICE)
12 Have you seen a person who is wise in his own sight?
Know that there is more hope for a fool than for him.
And again from today in Proverbs…
Proverbs 29:20 The Voice (VOICE)
20 Have you ever met someone who is overly eager to talk?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.
I wrote about a serene heart last time, but now the Holy Spirit’s focus seems to be on my mouth.
I encourage you to go back and read all of chapters 26 and 29 in Proverbs. The context paints a rather bleak picture for a fool. Then this stinging phrase… There is more hope for a fool (which took an entire chapter to describe) that for someone who thinks they are wise in their own eyes and who is overly eager to talk. I spent time examining my life on May 26, but then today’s really hit as I do like to talk.
So for me, am I overly eager to talk? And if so why? Pride? Insecurity? A need to please people with my words? To justify myself? To win an argument rather than just listen?
Thank you Lord, for making me aware and I simply and humbly pray and ask you to… “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24 – ESV)
