Community Character Camp 2015 highlight video (approximately 13 minutes long)

Our Character Traits were LOYALTY (examples – geting messages right and know AND do the wishes of those in charge) and DETERMINATION (examples – work hard to get jobs done and difficulties help me succeed.) And here are our mascots for the week – a pair of killdeer!

They lived out the character traits of LOYALTY and DETERMINATION by protecting their nest of four eggs on campus. On the last day of camp three of the four eggs hatched into baby chicks! But the one killdeer still would not leave the last egg unattended. Talk about Determination! Well, it paid off because the very next morning the fourth egg hatched!

Thanks again for a great week of camp and thanks to God for these real life lesson examples.

The kids raised $734.54 for Living Water International to provide clean water wells in Burkina Faso, Africa. Check out the website and visit the places in Burkina Faso that have wells because of Character Camp!

They also collected 306 food items for the Renville County Food Shelf in Olivia. WAY TO GO CAMPERS!

Grace Community Church (affiliated with the EFCA) of Olivia, MN, provided more than 72 children in the BOLD and RCW school districts with a memorable and entirely FREE four-day summer camp experience this summer. In lieu of a camp fee, we asked each camper to bring a loose change offering each day to go towards a special project to fight a lack of clean water worldwide. 100% of our offering goes to Burkina Faso in Africa for the construction of a fresh water well. Every $20 raised provided an entire family with fresh water. The kids raised $734.54 or enough for more than 36 families!! This year we also collected 306 food items for the Renville County Food Shelf!

Each day began at 5:30 pm singing camp songs, playing Minute-To-Win-It and learning about two important character qualities, LOYALTY and DETERMINATION. Campers learned about these from the world of nature as well as stories from the Bible at their campsites.

The Camp moved around the large Grace Community Campus for a variety of activities including nature hikes, water games, crafts, and much more. Each child received a free T-shirt, a free wristband, free water bottle, free backpack and a free meal each evening. The evening ends each night with a real campfire and the roasting of marshmallows to make homemade s’mores.

On Saturday, July 11, more than thirty kids who attended three out of four days and learned all their verses were given a FREE pool party here in Olivia at the High School pool from 9-11am. We also invited their families to join us at the pool as we celebrate the Christ-centered and fun-filled week of Community Character Camp!

We sometimes get asked the question why Grace Community Church does all of this for free? Our response is two-fold. First, we believe summer camp is a great experience and would love to see every kid go, but often distance or finances make it difficult. So we as a Church want to be lavishly generous to our community to provide such an experience for the children of our community. Secondly, and most importantly, we believe this is a tangible picture of what God has done for us. He paid for all our sin so that we can be restored to abundant everlasting life with Him through the death of His Son, Jesus on the cross. He paid it all, and all we have to do is turn away from our sin and receive Jesus Christ as our savior. One of our camp songs said it well, “Oh, happy day! You washed my sins away!” This well known verse from John 3:16 also says it well, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Thank you to all the volunteers, sponsors and parents who helped make it possible!

Community Character Camp is our gift to our community. I am glad you were able to come!

Following the King with you!      ~ Pastor Henry
